Watch Me

Rose Gold Soho Fifth Watch (via Girl x Garment)

Confession: I've never liked watches. For some reason, no matter what brand, I could never find a watch that I liked enough to want to wear it constantly. Plus, living in a digital age, I never felt like I needed one since I always had my phone with me.

Then this beautiful rose gold piece of perfection happened. I can't believe I'm making an entire blog post about one watch but THAT IS HOW OBSESSED I AM. I discovered The Fifth Watches via their drool-worthy Instagram and, as a girl well-versed in marketing, I was super impressed with their branding. They're all about the number 5 - five styles of watch, available for five days a month, starting on the fifth. They have an awesome selection, but this particular "Soho" watch from their New York line was my favorite.

If you're a fan of the minimalist look and want to check out some other brands, here's an under-$50 option, a similar Kate Spade piece, and a Classic Daniel Wellington option.

Alright guys, let's talk about tanning. Specifically, how to get safe, sunless color.

Unless you've been living under a rock, you all probably know how horrible tanning in the sun or in a tanning bed is for you and your skin. If you prefer to tan naturally in the sun or via a tanning bed, then that's your decision! It's your skin and your body. I'm not here to act as your mother and lecture you. You do you. Just make sure you know the risks!

SO. Sunless tanning. Get all the bad connotations and fears of orange-skin out of your head right now.

I'll start by saying that I am naturally very very fair-skinned and I'm totally okay with that. BUT there's nothing wrong with wanting to look a little bronzed for the summer or during/after a vacation. Additionally, because I am a model, clients often ask that we have a tan for some jobs. Soo since I'm such a sunscreen devotee & I want to take the best care of my skin, I'm that girl at the beach/pool under the umbrella and covered in sunscreen and probably also wearing a big floppy hat. And then I get my tan the safer way: specifically, with Vita Liberata.

This. stuff. is. incredible. Forget all the horrors of sunless tanning (streakiness, uneven tan, unnatural color, orange hands, etc). The last time I used this people couldn't believe it wasn't a natural tan. And I'm very upfront about the fact that I don't *ever* tan naturally because it's so bad for the skin. I'll choose healthy, happy, wrinkle and cancer-free skin every time, thanks!

Before & After Sunless Tan (via Girl x Garment)

[My natural color vs. the morning after applying Vita Liberata]

Heads up: I am not sponsored or being paid in any way by Vita Liberata, I have just tried a lot of self-tanner methods and this one is by far the best. My second favorite is definitely St Tropez sunless tanner, but it doesn't last nearly as long as Vita Liberata does on my skin.

I use the mousse & mitt in the darkest option. Application is super easy and ridiculously quick (they have an online how-to video) and it dries almost instantly (I've piled on the white clothing afterwards and, unless you go workout and get sweaty immediately after applying, this stuff does not transfer at all). Post-shower it barely fades, and then you can workout all you want because there will be zero transfer no matter how much you sweat. My favorite way to apply is before I go to bed, so I wake up with a tan. I go to bed probably one-two minutes after applying and it doesn't get on sheets and doesn't dry weirdly due to sleep. After one application, it looks like the photo above. And it lasts. After two applications, you're tan for at least a week, often two weeks (especially if you apply a 3rd time). It fades very naturally, too. Also, I don't exfoliate/moisturize before I tan. I just put the stuff right on my body. Maybe it would last longer if I did that but I prefer that the whole process take as little time as possible so I just do it this way and it takes me maybe 5 minutes. Super lazy tan.

I'm always curious to hear what products you guys have used and if you have any horror stories (ha), so let me know! Cheers

Girl's Best: At Home Workouts

A Model's Favorite At-Home Workouts | Girl x Garment

Tank: Lululemon | Leggings: Lululemon

I remember when I first discovered that the Victoria's Secret workouts were online. It was like striking gold. That's how excited I was. Here's the thing though: they never seemed like a complete workout. Since I've started training with the same guys that train the VS girls (at ModelFIT), I realize that the videos were just segments of what they actually do! Plus, now that I've mastered the art of finding workouts online, I have a ton of challenging workouts literally at my fingertips.

If you ever have those days where the gym is too far or will take up too much time or you'll freeze to death if you attempt the walk, definitely bookmark this page and check out my favorite at-home workouts below. I'll warn you though: these aren't all for your easy rest days. I'll normally start off by doing 25-30 mins of cardio of my choice and follow it up with a mix of these. Ready, set, sweat:

Girl's Best: Smoothie Recipe

AMAZING Green Smoothie | Girl x Garment

Get ready because this super healthy green smoothie is about to rock your world. My sister was skeptical, since the ingredients include kale and spinach, and once I had finished making the smoothie she informed me that it looked like I was drinking pesto (true). BUT once she tried it, she was convinced (and poured herself a second glass). If you're looking for a healthy snack, definitely give this recipe a whirl: It tastes like a piña colada, makes a great post-workout drink, and is a yummy way to add some more fruits & veggies (and their nutritional benefits!) to your day.

Ingredients: (Makes ~2 smoothies)

1/2 an avocado

1 chopped banana

1 handful chopped kale

1 handful chopped spinach

1 cup frozen pineapple

3/4 cup pineapple juice

1/4 cup coconut milk (or coconut water)

I'm starting a new series on the blog that I'll be calling "Girl's Best Friend" posts where I will show you my favorite things in a variety of different categories. I wanted a title that referenced my blog title (aka uses the word "girl"), but I also have been binge-watching old Marilyn Monroe movies lately (BEST idea ever), so I'm also pretty happy making a Gentlemen Prefer Blondes reference. Since it's the holiday season, I thought it was appropriate that my first post would be on my favorite go-to, so-glad-I-bought-these lipsticks. They are all great for holiday parties and upcoming New Years festivities. Enjoy!
