Halloween 2018

Flamingo Halloween Costume

Happy Halloween loves!

In all the craziness this year, I wasn’t able to create a “costume ideas” blog post as I normally do - which I apologize for, since I know you guys have really liked that in the past. I promise I’ll try to bring it back next year!

Although it seemed difficult to top my SUN costume from last year, this year I landed on a costume idea that seemed pretty perfect: a flamingo. It’s tall. It’s pink. It’s me.

Unfortunately, flamingo costumes don’t really exist (and when they do, they aren’t very cute), so I didn’t have much to base my costume around. Keep scrolling to read all about the final look and the inspiration behind it!

I wasn’t sure if my costume was going to work until I found this dress.

Since I love Halloween so much, I actually started planning my costume about a month in advance - and a quick “pink feather dress” Google search brought me to this under-$100 blush pink feather number that was just too perfect.

I really like that the dress is a blush pink instead of a magenta, and the feather skirt is really cute (although can be difficult to zip).

Pink Fabric Angel Wings

The next challenge: wings.

Turns out that it’s super hard to find pink feather wings. There are a ton of butterfly or fairy options online, but I needed these to be bird wings. I considered making my own (or even buying white angel wings and dying them pink somehow), but a part of me wanted something that went down my arms (and wasn’t just sitting on my back). I ended up finding these children’s costume fabric wings at the very last minute. I ordered them and ended up fixing the elastic ties so that they would fit around my arms.

And finally: the makeup.

I love a costume that allows me to play around with makeup, so this was really fun for me. I based my makeup around a few images I found on Pinterest and Instagram (this bright pink Fenty Beauty highlighter was an excellent purchase for this look) and used the Kristen Ess Rose Tint to temporarily dye my hair pink to match the rest of the look.

And with that… I’m off to go plan for next year!

(Kidding! Kind of)

Happy Halloween!

First Sweater of the Season

In preparation for another Boston autumn and winter, I made my first new sweater purchase of the season a few weeks ago. While this super-soft sweater looks awesome with my favorite pair of jeans, I opted instead to style it with these high-waisted mint green pants to elevate the look and add a little more color.

I’m breaking away from the stereotypical hues for fall. Reds, oranges, and neutrals are gorgeous and so perfectly autumnal, but I’m really loving jewel tones this season. I’m dreaming of sapphire blues, amethyst purples, and emerald greens - and I love that I get a vibrant combination from this ruffled, long-sleeve midi dress.

Festival Ready

Music Festival Outfit | @maevestier

Music festivals are the best excuse to play around with your style and go a little extra. Elaborate braided hairdos with glitter spray? Rhinestones glued to your face? Bring it on.
For the Made In America festival with Abercrombie this month, I put together two looks based on some of my favorite bohemian trends. And of course, I couldn’t resist bringing back my pink ombre hair for the weekend.

I love the patches and ruffles and overall pattern of this Abercrombie dress, but wanted to add a casual layer, which I achieved by tying my denim jacket around the waist. Adding two large silver necklaces layered on top of each other made the outfit feel perfectly festival-ready.

I went for a more casual look on the second day of the festival, choosing high-waisted vintage-inspired denim shorts and a lace cami. My favorite piece was this sheer floral kimono, which was perfectly boho and floaty. Dancing around the festival with this flowing around me was so fun!

When it comes to snapping content for the blog, I make every effort to be as organized as possible - but even the best plans don’t always work out. While I was in San Francisco earlier this month, I had planned to shoot this outfit over at the Palace of Fine Arts Theater - a really pretty structure in the Marina District. When I arrived to meet the photographer, we realized that the entire area where we were going to shoot was closed off for a TV show that was filming. We shot a few photos from across the pond, but we ended up getting the majority of the shots you see here just by wandering through the nearby neighborhoods. The Theater area being closed off may have been a blessing in disguise, since we ended up finding the cutest SF homes with flower-covered facades when we were forced to shoot elsewhere.
