How To Hide That You Overslept

Today I'm letting you in on one of my biggest style hacks: how to look chic & put-together when you've overslept.

It happens to the best of us: we forget to set the alarm or maybe we think we pressed "snooze" when we've really turned our phone alarm OFF. We've all been there - and today I wanted to walk you through my go-to's for those mornings when I have barely any time to get ready.

Step 1: Opt for an all-black ensemble

Don't waste time trying to figure out if this top goes with these pants - go for an entirely black look. Time after time, all black outfits are the easiest way to look good with minimal effort. Black top/pants/skirt/dress, shoes, and bag. Done.

STEP 2: Quick Hairstyle

On those days when I don't have time to do anything with my hair, I opt for a sleek chignon. It's ridiculously simple, but manages to make you look put-together and like you mean business. No muss, no fuss hairstyle in 10 seconds.

Step 3: a statement earring

Statement earrings have this magical effect that makes it seem like some effort went into your look. They're eye-catching and pair really well with a pulled-back hairstyle like the low chignon.

Step 4: Add a Lip

We're running late, so no time for your usual makeup routine. Apply quick and very minimal makeup (maybe concealer and a swipe of mascara if you want), then reach for a red lip (or bold lip color of your choice).

Voila - you're done!

These four steps let me rush out the door in total confidence. Will anyone be able to tell that you were asleep less than ten minutes ago? Nope.
Next time you need to catch some extra ZZZs, give it a try.

My Everyday Jewelry

Delicate Little Gold Rings

When it comes to jewelry, things can get pretty personal.

I'm someone who likes to mix it up depending on what I'm wearing (and I'm having a moment with statement earrings right now), but I also have my "everyday" jewelry that you'll catch me wearing time and time again. On a normal day, I'm reaching for a handful of pretty pieces that reflect my personal style and often hold some story or sentimental value.

Delicate Ear Climbers | @maevestier

My all-time favorite, wear-them-to-death earrings are these ear climbers from Gorjana (style is called "Amara"). I actually originally had this pair, but after losing one of them I ended up getting the Amara style and loving them even more. They're simple but really special, and I'm always getting compliments on them.

99% of the time, you'll catch me wearing three particular rings. The first is a rectangular baguette ring that I picked up walking around a street market in Brooklyn after attending my first fashion week as a blogger (similar here). The second is a pear-shaped ruby my parents brought me as a gift after visiting family in Dubai (similar here). The last is a marquise style that I bought right after I moved to Boston, almost a year ago (similar here). All three are fairly different, but they pair well together and I love that they all represent little pieces of my life.

Studio Apartment Design

Welcome to my apartment tour!

This has been a long time coming, but I'm excited to finally share my space with you. Apartment-hunting can be a difficult process, and when I found the space I'm in now, I was feeling both thrilled and overwhelmed. My requirements were that it be bright, light-filled, and dog-friendly (hi Weaver!), so when I discovered a space that offered all of that in addition to crown molding, high ceilings, and a chandelier, I could barely contain my excitement. I felt as if I had found a studio apartment in Paris - not Boston. Studios can be challenging, though, and I didn't want guests to feel as if they were standing in my bedroom when they walked in. I kept that in mind when creating the layout and kept my decor cozy, romantic, and a bit industrial.

Oversized Large Floor Mirror

My favorite thing in the entire apartment? You would probably guess my oversized mirror, which was something I had wanted for over a year. I do absolutely adore the mirror, but my real favorite is this blush-colored chair. It belonged to my grandmother and originally had a dark cherry-wood frame that I later painted white. I love the subtle pop of pink it provides, and it feels special to have an old family piece in my apartment.

The apartment isn't quite finished yet - as you can see, I'm still looking for closet storage solutions (so please ignore the moving box that holds my shoes!).
Also, although not pictured, the apartment includes two other rooms: the bathroom is through the door to the left of my closet, and the kitchen is through an archway the far left corner.

Halloween 2017 Ideas

It's almost time...

And I'm so excited. To be perfectly honest, I've had Halloween ideas popping into my head for the past few months, and since last year's post was such a success, I thought I'd do another this year on Halloween costume ideas I'm loving. I already have my costume figured out for this year, but I'd wear any of these other ideas in a heartbeat:

Butterfly Halloween Costume

Idea #1: The Butterfly

I found these awesome butterfly wings randomly on Forever21 and the idea took off from there. I'd go for an all black outfit + these wings + wavy hair + a few glued on butterflies with some Snapchat-inspired butterfly makeup.

Cyborg Halloween Costume

Idea #2: The Cyborg

Any excuse to wear a silver jumpsuit, right? Top it all off with some fierce robot-esque makeup and a sleek ponytail. I really like the metallic neck detail in this inspiration photo.

Idea #3: The Dragon

Forget the Mother of Dragons - why not just be the dragon? You could get super creative with this one, but my first thoughts were a snake print cropped top, dutch braid, and wings.

White Walker Halloween Costume

Idea #4: White Walkers

This is a great one to do with a group of friends. Frosty makeup, white hair spray paint, and an all-white ensemble (or more of a silver "armor" look would work as well). If you're up for it, you can even get icy blue contacts from your eye doctor (just make sure you get them from a doctor!).

Let me know if you end up using any of these and be sure to follow along on my Instagram to see what I end up wearing this year!
