Chic This Week 046

What's CHIC this week (vol. 046)

Graphics sweaters & sweatshirts. You can expect to see me in a few of these this fall. Especially into this and this.

Low chignon. On days when I'm running out the door, I've been tossing my hair into a low bun, inspired by Olivia Palermo's signature hairstyle.

Distressed tee. For a quick and easy casual look, a slightly-distressed tee and jeans feel very off-duty chic.

Currently lusting after: the "JA'DIOR" slingbacks.

Circular bags. Just purchased one for my upcoming travels and I love the unexpected shape.

Sentimental Pieces

Blogger Favorite Shoes

It's no secret that my wardrobe has grown since I became a blogger. Over the course of the past few years, I've come to realize that some of my favorite pieces are those that have memories attached to them. It's not always about the actual items I'm finding for my closet - how I found them or where I wore them can often matter the most.

From the dress I had to hunt down for my college graduation to my favorite "power outfit" that helped me nail a magazine internship, there are so many stories that come to mind when I peek behind my closet doors.

These sandals, in particular, always stand out as sentimental pieces in my wardrobe. During my senior year of college, I spent my March Break in Italy and France with one of my closest friends. This friend was an excellent planner, and before we left she had compiled a giant list of places for us to visit on our vacation. Included on that list was an artisan sandal shop called Di San Giacomo in Rome, where you can design your own leather sandals that are fitted around your feet and ready to wear in a matter of hours. Both my friend and I had sandals made at that little shop during one of our final days in Rome. To anyone else, my sandals might not seem out-of-the-ordinary, but I love that every time I slip into the pale pink and gold straps, I'm wearing a one-of-a-kind reminder of one of my all-time favorite trips.

When In Doubt

Lace Cami

Tops: here & here | Jeans | Shoes | Necklace

Every so often, we all have that moment when we are completely unsure of what to wear. It never hurts to plan a look advance, but on days when you can't, I wanted to share my go-to piece to fall back on: a lace-detailed cami.
Anything-but-boring, a lace cami is feminine, romantic, and universally flattering. Where a plain tank might not cut it, a lace detail adds texture and can keep a basic outfit from looking too stale. Layer a casual sweater over it while hanging out with friends or wear it on its own for date night. Try it 90's style layered over a tee or pop it under a denim jacket. Your options are endless.
The best part: you can find variations on the lace cami everywhere and at multiple price points.

Lace Cami Style

My two favorites: a soft white higher-neckline option and a sleek, strappy black v-neck with lace insert.

Chic This Week 045

What's CHIC this week

Personalization. From customized Sephora experiences to bags with your name on them, both style and beauty industries are making things all about you. Can't wait to get my hands on a Pop&Suki crossbody.

In this week's chapter of delicate jewelry I'm lusting over: just ordered these dainty ear cuffs from Etsy - no piercing needed.

This would have come in handy when I couldn't decide on art for my apartment. These Depict frames allow you to display your choice of art in your home via a digital screen.

Have to have this graphic tee from Shopbop's newest addition Les Girls, Les Boys.

Simple But Significant

Floral Shorts High Waist

Shorts | Tee | Bag | Sandals (similar here & here)

For those of you who haven't gone through a Mad Men binge (guilty), there's a fantastic quote from the main character that you've missed out on: Make it simple, but significant.

The idea of a basic tee-and-shorts combo during the summer? Simple. But these printed and ruffled high-waisted shorts definitely pass as significant. The high waist works to elongate legs and add waist definition, and the print doesn't feel overwhelming when combined with a basic tee.
